Clive Walkley

The choir’s musical director is CLIVE WALKLEY, for many years a Tutor in Music at the former Charlotte Mason College, Ambleside.

He has made an extensive study of Spanish Renaissance polyphony and has written a book on the music of Juan Esquivel. The Singers frequently include Spanish Renaissance music in their programmes, sometimes singing from new specially-prepared editions.

Clive was a part-time lecturer in Music Education at Lancaster University. He is also a busy free-lance musician, running choral workshops, composing, editing and researching in the field of early music; he is a cellist, and organist at St Mark’s Church, Natland.

Clive’s biography of Juan Esquivel, “A Master of Sacred Music during the Spanish Golden Age”, is the first full length study of Esquivel’s life and works and was published in November 2010 by Boydell and Brewer.
